If you’re someone who loves the look of a barn style for a home, then you might just love this cute little barn home. Decked out in red metal siding this barn home from Meyer Recreational Buildings is anywhere from $12,000 to $20,000 with enough space inside for two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Inside, the home has 800 square feet making it just big enough for a couple or even a small family. The red is perfect for a barn home since that’s been the typical color for barns throughout history. Plus, it’s nice to have a pop of color on your home as well. Although, if you wanted your barn home to be a more neutral color they would do that too since metal siding comes in a variety of colors. The metal siding is a nice alternative to logs or wood especially if you’re seeking a lightweight, affordable and low-maintenance material on your barn home. The home you see here is from the Broadhead design which is Meyer Recreational Buildings’ most popular design designed for family vacations and relaxation. The original plan is 1,120 square feet in total, but as you can see with this design, the floor plan can be made as small or as large as needed. The design makes great use of space and even has a grilling porch and a mud room to store dirty boots and outdoor clothing.
On the exterior, the home is 28 feet by 40 feet by 8 feet and is constructed using a conventional stick frame. The porch is covered and measures 6 feet by 28 feet. All of the exterior steel used on the walls and the rood is McElroy 29 gauge Max Rib with Kynar 500 paint and a 40-year non-prorated warranty. Everything is put together using Woodgrip fasteners, and they used the same metal for all of the joineries. The barn cottages include the white vinyl windows with horizontal sliding openings, but other colors of windows are available. The walls are insulated using R-19 batt insulation with a 4mm poly vapor barrier, and the ceiling is insulated using R-40 blown fiberglass insulation a vapor barrier as well. Inside the ceilings are nice and open creating height within the home in the living area. The kitchen comes with all of the cabinetry and countertops installed as well as the bathroom cabinetry installed too. The common area includes the living room, dining area and the L-shaped kitchen in the corner, but that configuration can be changed to suit the customer’s preferences. The grilling porch is off of the common area making it easy to transport the meat and food out onto the porch.
Then the bedrooms are on the other side of the living area with two bedrooms the same size and a bathroom across the hall. There’s also the mechanical room and a scent containment room for storing outdoor gear. This could be a great little cabin for anyone wanting a vacation home or to build as a tiny house to live in full time. Meyer Recreational Buildings has been in business for over 50 years starting in 1957. They just came out with a line of outdoor buildings that can be built anywhere. They have a range of larger buildings too in their Recreation Designs, so if you need something a bit larger than this small barn style home, there might be something in there that inspires you. Building even a small house can be a big undertaking for someone who doesn’t have building experience, so it’s great that Meyer Recreational Buildings can help you get the cabin or home you’ve been dreaming of.
